Class Willow in action

Welcome to Willow Class

EYFS, Year 1 & Year 2

As a mixed curriculum class, we separate our learning to to meet our individual learning outcomes. We are very lucky to have two classrooms that are set up for our unique learning.

EYFS stay in our main classroom where the environment is learning through play. Mrs Smith and Mrs Plaskett provide lots of interactive activities throughout our main classroom and outdoor space. With links to topics, phonics, numbers and the world around us.

Year 1 & Year 2 take their learning to our Willow Branch classroom. Where the environment is a little more formal with evidence of extended provision around the room to support our formal learning. Mrs Smith and Miss Pearson provide a structured learning timetable throughout the day with engaging fun and practical lessons. Our extended provision fits around our formal learning, with activities covering all areas including Math, English, Spelling, Science, Computing, Humanities.

Phonics

Phonics is a key part of our learning and it helps to form long term letter and sound recognition to support fluent reading. We ask that you spend some time with your child supporting their learning and understanding of those initial sounds.

We follow Little Wandle as our phonics scheme, and parent information is accessible if you follow the links posted on Class Dojo. In line with the National Phonics Screening Check Year 1 children will soon take this screening assessment, if you have any queries with regards to this assessment please do get in touch.

Reading

As part of our Phonics scheme your child will have access to a reading book aimed at their individual reading level. (Based on the GPCs they are familiar with)

EYFS children in groups will focus on one book in school Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, with the class teacher building up to show fluent word recognition. On Friday this book will come home for the weekend for the children to share with you the parent their reading skills.

Year 1 and Year 2 children will have a reading book that is to their reading ability to share with an adult at home.

PE

Willow class have PE every Thursday Morning with Mr Wright. Occasionally, we may get an additional PE on a Monday but a reminder will go out when PE is on an additional day, via Class Dojo. Children should come to school in their PE kits on their PE days. Please refer to the uniform policy for correct PE kit.

Things to remember

We need to remember to bring our reading book and dairy in daily, as the weather is beginning to warm up we ask that all children bring a sun hat and sun cream that they are able to apply themselves.
