The Role of the School Council-Democracy in Action.
The School Councillors are chosen by their peers to represent their classes on the School Council. This meets weekly and minutes are recorded that evidence how the pupils think school is doing, both well and in how it needs to improve.
They make many key decisions during the course of the year about how to spend donations that come in to school and money raised at events. They also decide how school can raise money for the various charities we support, like Children In Need and Comic/Sport Relief and have run stalls at the Christmas and Summer Fairs.
Councillors carry out surveys with the children in order to ascertain what they think priorities should be with moving the school forward.
When new staff have been interviewed for posts at school, the Council has carried out its own interview, asking questions based on what the children in school think a prospective candidate should be like.
These are just a few of the duties of the School Council, which as I'm sure you can see, are varied with wide ranging, positive outcomes for school as a whole.
