Phonics

At Dunham on Trent CofE Primary School we follow the Letters and Sounds scheme alongside resources from Jolly Phonics and Monster Phonics.  

 

Letters and Sounds is resource published by the Department for Education.  It aims to build children's speaking and listening skills.  The programme starts in nursery (foundation stage one) where children explore sounds such as; environmental, instrumental and body.  As well as learning nursery rhymes, voice sounds, alliteration and oral blending and segmenting.

In the document below you will find some information about the terminology we use during our phonics lessons.
Here are the phonemes and blends taught in phase two, three, four and five.  In class one we aim to teach all phonemes in phases two and three as well as the blends in phase four.  Children will begin phase five in year one.

Jolly Phonics a scheme which is linked to letters and sounds but incorporates actions and rhymes along sound each phoneme.  Here is a link to the rhymes...
